Driving Digital Literacy for all Children™

We provide K-8 students Computer Science, AI, and STEM classes in underserved communities.  In-Class. After-School. Summer Camps.

The Problem

An Income driven Digital Divide.

92% of jobs require digital skills. But less than 10% of K-8 schools in underserved communities have access to computer resources or classes.

This leads to an opportunity and skills gap for children in underserved communities.

The Solution

We bring the classroom to the kids.

We embed dedicated teachers directly in schools and community centers with >70% Title 1 K-8 students. We focus on experiential learning by teaching in-person using robots and game design - and provide the computer resources/ robotic kits/ supplies required for each class.

Proven Impact.  100% Retention

We don't just hope for results. We prove them. Since 2017, every single school partner has renewed our services. That's a 100% retention rate. It's the ultimate report card.

What Our Clients Say

“Our partnership with SCL has been a tremendous asset to the DCSD. Through their innovative coding programs, our students have gained invaluable skills that are crucial in today’s technology-driven world. The engagement and enthusiasm observed in our classrooms are a testament to the high-quality instruction and real-world relevance of the content provided by SCL. This collaboration has not only enriched our curriculum but has also fostered a deeper interest in STEM fields among our students.”

Dr. Sue A. Mariani, Ed.D

Superintendent, Duquesne City School District

The Out-of-School Time (OST) Team at Pittsburgh Public Schools began partnering with STEM Coding Lab during the 2017-2018 school year. From our early talks to the programming that they currently run, they have been committed to providing high-quality OST programming to our students and always collaborate responsively with our schools and District offices.

Tylor Hart

Deputy Director of the Department of Children Initiatives

“Stem Coding Lab is an asset to our city and a leader in providing access to and advocating for quality Computer Science/Coding to our community and beyond. I have had the pleasure of volunteering with Kathleen and Jason for several well-organized community Hour of Code events. We have had an incredible time educating community members, sharing resources and meeting new people through coding. On a more local level Stem Coding Lab secured a One Northside Grant, to provide Northside residents with a top notch and well-attended Hour of Code at CoLab 18 in Nova Place, another great community resource. On a more personal level, volunteering with Stem Coding Lab has been very motivating to me professionally and continues to inspire me to grow professionally.”

“The Jerome Bettis, Bus Stops Here Foundation is proud to partner with STEM Coding Lab on our stem education program, Innovation Huddle. The curriculum they’ve developed will ensure that students in the Pittsburgh region will receive the skills they need to thrive in a technology driven world. We are grateful for their expertise, creativity, and thoughtfulness that goes into each and every lesson plan. We know with the STEM Coding Lab as our partner, we will continue to grow our program and reach more students in our community.”

Jerome Bettis

Founder - The Jerome Bettis Bus Stops Here Foundation

Working with Kathleen and Jason at STEM Coding Lab has always been both a pleasurable and beneficial experience. We have been able to partner and share resources collaboratively to make sure that students and teachers in the region not only have the equipment necessary for a 21st century education, but also the knowledge of how to effectively use those tools. I look forward to seeing STEM Coding Lab’s programs and presence grow in the region for the benefit of local youth.

How we do it

1. Experiential Learning
We teach STEM concepts using robotics and game design. This hands-on approach builds logical reasoning, abstract thinking, and teamwork.

2. In-Person Delivery

Our teachers are in the classroom, fostering the collaboration and character skills critical for success.

3. Focus on the Underserved

More than 80% of the children we serve qualify for Title I free lunch benefits, a federal program that supports under resourced schools. This focus helps us reach the neediest children and school districts.
